  1. Film Review- Mrs. Serial Killer on Netflix I like the vastness of Bollywood cinema and the offerings mushrooming on Netflix, a platform for some real good cinema for viewers who love to explore different genres. This one from Shirish Kunder deserves applause, for it revamps the dark film category coming out of Bollywood and also highlights the blooming of some slow paced films, in the zip-zap-zoom world of edged-editing in recent cinema. Shrish Kunder brings to the viewers, a film which moves slow as modern-aged snail yet catches the darkness in its most candid form! The star cast is riveting and adds charming darkness to the film equalizing on the pace factor. Thanks to all the Netflix Originals, viewers are having a great time with all the varied offerings on the platform, satiating the need of good cinema across categories. The film opens up with Jacqueline Fernandez fully-zoomed onto, to personify madness, gloom, darkness, despair and a touch of psychotic feel. The first act will engage the audience to sift through the oncoming misery meted out to the lady who's made captive and layer by layer, progresses to the suspense connected to the kidnapped girls in the small hilly town. The film revolves around Mrs.Sona Mujkherjee (Jacqueline Fernandez), Dr.Mrityunjoy Mukherjee (Manoj Bajpai) & Inspector Imran Shahid (Mohit Raina). The star-cast sustains the darkness of the script and unerringly delivers the murder mystery, revolving around the Doctor and his wife. Most of the film runs on the dainty shoulders of Mrs. Sona Mukherjee and she glamorously takes the onus of helping hubby dear, Doctor Mukherjee. The battle for proving his innocence or rather unimaginable twist in the tale intensifies with the presence of Sona's ex-lover in the guise of Inspector probing the murder mystery behind the missing girls and the torturous crime! Part of the film's shot in Uttarkhand's beautiful hilly locales which adds to beauty to an otherwise dark film, especially the pretty old-world British cottages shown in the film. Jacqueline Fernandez, as the wife, the sufferer, the patsy, is fresh, convincing, suave and lends enough mettle to the character of Sona. Manoj Bajpai was born to act and as Doctor, he gets into the skin of the dark character. He is city's famous male gynecologist and not to miss the dialogue of Dr. Mrityunjoy Mukherjee, "a bald hair-stylist." Dr. Mukherjee is in love with his wife and absolutely adores her but the twists in his story creates confusion in the beginning for the viewers suddenly changes, adding intensified darkness to not only the film but also the character. The ex-lover aka Inspector Imran Shahid (Mohit Raina), lends a lot of muscular action to the dark mystery of the missing girls and ensures the viewers, till the end, blame goes to the poor damsel in distress, his beautiful ex-love! The reasonably well toned body in uniform is all out to bang a few tables and crush a few bones while investigating the mysteries and sometimes even falls in the circle of serious doubt.... The praise worthy supporting characters like the sole alive, abducted victim, Ansuhka Tiwari (Zayn Marie Khan), the Lawyer of Dr. Mukherjee, Mr. Brij Rastogi (Darshan Jariwala) are all well balanced out in their deliveries adding extra dark charm to the film ensuring the viewers are not left to suffer on account of slow pace of the film. But hold onto, till the end inches nearer and the viewers are engulfed into the darkness, craving for the closing of the investigation and revealing the real killer !! Get a dose of some dark mystery on Netflix with Mrs. Sona Mukherjee Cast & Crew: Director, Writer, Editor, Music-score : Shirish Kunder, Producers: Farah Khan, Shirish Kunder, Nischay Kuttanda Cinematography: Ravi K. Chandran & Kiran Deohans Cast: Jacqueline Fernandez, Manoj Bajpai, Mohit Raina, Zayn Marie Khan, Darshan Jariwala, Chanda Joshi, Deepak Arora, Anuradha Rajadhyaksha, Rajesh Mavani, Aparajita Bajaj, Nihil Dave
  2. Love #Aaj ~Kal 2020: Film Review- "Haan mei Galat......Galat hoga tu bhi......." This line of the famous song from Love Aaj Kal, says it all...Love is the most confusing word in the world, so what's right for you might be different for me & might be totally different for someone else!! And definition of love has changed over decades like changes due to global warming! Imtiaz Ali (the Director) has to be understood in the right direction! To feel the depth of this love, you gotta be in love or be torn apart by its madness to feel what Imtiaz Ali's trying to radiate. The film merges in the present scenario of love happening in 2020 with the split screen running parallel onto love of 1990. Two different tales set against different and tangential eras. Two groups of lovers facing different complications of the heart in two different cultural set-ups yet bound by the same deep rooted mixed emotions of the game of luck, called love. The performances of Zoe Chauhan (Sara Ali Khan), Leena (Arushi Sharma), Veer & Raghu (Kartik Aryan) and older Raghu (Randeep Hooda) , are all distinct but the couple of 2020 is a stellar! The couple set in 2020 battles issues of options in love, options in profession and above all shortage of the pill of patience (lot of youngsters will be able to relate to this feeling of "too many options...I shouldn't care and move on feeling...") while the lovers of 1990 struggle to keep up with the changing demands of the society, their own soaring ambitions and cultural reservations. The film beautifully weaves in the stark differences of love BACK-THEN and love NOW. It takes two to tango and the same way it takes a heart filled with love or loss to connect to this movie.....A lot has been written off, about this film but I still stand by the beauty of feelings beautifully mixed in to paint the screen with vibrant colors of LOVE in Aaj yet shadowed by Kal. The vivacious, young Zoe Chauhan (Sara Ali Khan) symbolizes modern girl of 2020 with utmost sincerity and elan. She lives life on her own terms and conditions and cares a damn about who-says-what!! Cut to the modern male protagonist, Veer (Kartik Aryan) who's restrained acting has not only got himself a strong hold on audience but has also got himself labelled as versatile at a very young age. Audience at first glance, might feel, Veer's just a lovelorn following Zoe at every critical turning point but dig deep and the eyes find the confusing heart of the present youth backed by male chivalry guarding the moral roots. Young Raghu (Kartik Aryan) on the other side of the coin of love is shy yet street smart and ends up taking the ladder of professional success to a different level, bordering around shallowness. Raghu transforms into sexy grey-haired, matured, robust man of today (Randeep Hooda), who convincingly tries to save Zoe from treading the same path of regret once taken by himself, leading to an unfulfilled life. Music of Pritam is an icing to the cake of Imtiaz Ali, making this love tale, so much more mushy. Kartik and Sara have wonderfully breathed fresh air into their on-screen characters. And Randeep reminds us of the old world charm. All in all, the film is worth watching and not just being scrutinized and judged on others reviews. So go fall in love aaj and get a dose of kal with musical mush and fresh faces for some refreshing moments with loved ones..go do it with a twist ! Cast & Crew: Director & Writer- Imtiaz Ali Producer - Imtiaz Ali & Dinesh Vijan Actors- Sara Ali Khan, Arushi Sharma, Kartik Aaryan, Randeep Hooda Cinematographer- Amit Roy, Donald McAlpine Editor- Aarti Bajaj Music-Pritam Watch the preview-
  3. KEDARNATH - The Film Mother Nature knows no boundaries or religion or caste or creed. Humans may invent anything in their best of capabilities but at the end of the road , every living form has to bow down to its creator- the Mother! The film is set in the scenic Kedarnath, a place located in the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river. Beautiful as it is, in its natural form, the place is known for the famous Shivling which looks over the river and attracts thousands of Hindu pilgrims and Lord Shiva's followers every year. Mansoor (Shushant Sing Rajput), a shy, reserved and honest Muslim porter gets attracted to the beautiful but rebellious daughter of the local Hindu priest, Mukku (Sarah Ali Khan). The two beautiful souls fall for each other deeper and deeper on the winding roads to the temple. The love story blooms amidst the mountains and the valley leading to bonding of the hearts and thus, romance. Lord Shiva showers enough love on the couple cruising from mundane work to chatting by the Tattu (Mule) trails which Mansoor arranges for the pilgrims and his lady love. He being the strong man in town not only woos our beautiful petite girl but also touches every heart visiting the temple. His motto, to bring a smile on the face of his customer and then running to ring the bell at the temple's gate every time he achieves his goal symbolizes the character's belief in Lord Shiva, as innocent as Shiva is, our man portrays the genuineness with elan. There are sweet, romantic moments between the two Sweethearts, which are beautifully captured by the camera alongside flirting with the sublime scenery. Sara Ali Khan does justice to the bubbly, rebellious yet soft hearted, romantic Hindu girl, who gives up everything for Mansoor. Sushant Singh Rajput on the other hand maintains the bareness of a poor porter while managing to woo the audience from his straight-from-the-heart performance. He not only makes it clear that religion knows only the language of love, not the boundaries set by manipulating and corrupting minds, trying to disrupt peace of humanity, but also tries to bridge Hindus and Muslims of the area surrounding the temple for community's harmony. Director (Abhishek Kapoor) doesn't leave a single frame in the film where the beauty of the place is not heightened by the mesmerizing background score and music tracks created with a lot of love for Shiva by the maestro Amit Trivedi. The track- Namo Namo is energetically soulful, taking the head and the heart closer to Adiyogi. The track is filled with a lot of love and energy that will create a soothing audio-visual effect on the audience. Amit Trivedi takes it one notch higher with every single track. But as the saying goes, every good thing must end, the love story is struck by the wrath of nature leaving the couple devastated as the fury is unleashed on the valley, taking with it everything that falls in its way. The real event was an eye opener to the entire nation to yet another catastrophe caused due to the ill effects of human civilization and growth. When will man instead of creating irrational boundaries of caste-creed, money-status, go down to the real issues of human existence and work towards creating a safer, wiser and cleaner balance between environment and progressive growth? The film will not only evoke strong feelings of devotion for Shiva but will also engulf the audience with visual simplicity, leaving the viewers to ponder and work on ways of symbiotic existence with Mother Nature! 4. Romeo Akbar Walter Official Teaser John Abraham Jackie Shroff Mouni Roy Releasing 12th April.mp4 RAW: Romeo Akbar Waltar Director: Robbie Grewal Actors: John Abraham, Jackie Shroff, Mouni Roy, Sikander Kher, ALka Amin & Suchitra Krishnamurthy Plot: Spy thriller Robby Grewal's film is an interesting human/psychological drama that spins around unsung heroes (spies) of Indian forces. But has a languid pace and so struggles to keep the audience engaged, especially in the first half. The second half of the movie compensates for the first half and proves John Abraham as the suave, rock solid, never-say-die performer backed by Jackie Shroff's well-balanced, stylish & boisterous role as the Chief of RAW, building intrigue which leads to a satisfying end where Walter comes to the forefront revealing a lot about what was going on until the end in subtle ways! Set on the espionage happenings of 1971 Indo-Bangladesh war, the movie revolves around the protagonist Rehmat Ali aka Romeo (John)a bank teller, who is handpicked by the RAW chief Shrikant Rai (Jackie) to serve the nation on foreign soil because of his two significant capabilities - his admirable ability in the art of defense & his skill of mingling in the crowd without a trace. The drama unfolds with a gut wrenching scene where a prisoner is being tortured by the Pakistani counterpart special officer (Khudabaksh Khan), pulling the nail off the nail-bed. There are high and low moments in this film from the performers point of view but storytelling lacks the lusture, leaving the audience wanting for more, especially to cater to the present world audience with extended conscious sensibilities. Lead actors - John and Jackie have justified their roles but the ladies don't impress much with their limited screen presence and short pop up roles weaved around the protagonists. All in all the movie does give a heartfelt tribute to the uncelebrated spies of the nation and manages to connect towards the patriotic feeling, though faintly. Unfortunately the screenplay doesn't strike a chord with the audience inspite of the personal connections of the director with war veterans! Medhavini

  6. How to become an Actor in Bollywood. Being part of the production process, lots of people ask me how they can have a successful career as actors. Mind you, whether you become a star or not depends on plenty of things, like your own charisma, your talent, the opportunities you get etc. But there is still a lot you can do to launch your acting career. These are the broad outlines, and I will make follow up posts with more details, like which acting classes, which casting directors etc. - Groom and train yourself As an actor you will be required to play various roles. You need to be fit, be able to ride a bike, a motorcycle, a car, a horse etc. You also need to be able to dance. Enrol in a good training course for acting where you learn the sublimities of actor training, voice control etc. You should not even attempt to start your career if you haven't done this already. - Join a good theatre group Whichever city you are in (and if you want to make a career in Bollywood, we recommend you move to Mumbai), join a good theatre group near you. It will give your acting skills the much needed exercise, remove any stage fright and inhibitions related to performances, and et you noticed. - Get a portfolio shot. You should now get plenty of photos of yourself shot. Find good photographers and get a variety of pictures shot of yourself, in the roles that you think suit you. Often, making friends with photographers help at getting this done. - Meet Casting Directors Casting Directors are specialists in finding acting talent for film makers. You need to know them, and they need to know you. 100s of films are being made very day (including TV Serials, TV Ad films, feature films, short films etc), and there is a huge demand for all types of acting talent. You must be at the right place at the right time. One wy to start that is to find a good casting director and send them your updated portfolio. - Act in short films Short films are a great way to get noticed as well as to test your own acting skills. Hundreds of short films are made every year by aspiring and established film makers. Often these films don't have budgets yo pay you for acting skills, but they generally will cover your expenses like local travel, food etc. These short films reach festivals, or become viral hits on social media, giving you a good platform for visibility. - Social Media This is a great tool for self publicity. Be active on social media. Every theatre workshop, performance, short film, anything, is an opportunity to post some photos of your self and gain a but of publicity. Social media is the new Page 3. - Find good producers Often you will find people around you willing to put money in films. The charm and potential windfall profits of films attracts many people. If you know anyone like this, you can help them get their film on the floor, provided you get casted in a role you desire. - Find good directors And last but not the least, find good directors. Directors are always looking for good talent for their own films. If you are top of mind with them, your chances of finding a good role increase. Find good directors, whose work you admire, and understand their scripts. See what they are looking for. As an actor, try and mould yourself in the characters the scriptwriter and director have written. People often like to wrk with known people, and this is a good way to find work. In subsequent posts, I will write in more details on these heads. Keep a watch on this thread.
