  2. 36x24mm Full-Frame Sensor for cinema VENICE is equipped with a 36x24mm full-frame image sensor, designed specifically for the demands and performance of high end cinematography, and can capture images up to a maximum resolution of 6048 x 4032*. By switching imager modes, VENICE can natively support Super35 24.9x18.7mm, 4096 x 3024 resolution (equivalent to 4-perforation motion picture film) and Super35 24.9x14.0mm 4096 x 2160 resolution (equivalent to 3-perforation motion picture film). In other words, VENICE’s new full-frame sensor can capture in almost any format, including full 18mm-height Super35 Anamorphic and spherical and full-frame 24mm-height Anamorphic and spherical*. Almost any aspect ratio can be conjured up: 1.85:1, 2.39:1, 17:9, the list goes on in full-frame* or Super35. With VENICE, Sony is giving users the option to customize their camera by only enabling the features needed, according to their individual production requirements. Licenses will be available to expand the camera's capabilities with new features including 4K anamorphic and full-frame*. * Firmware update required Creative freedom Full-Frame Full width 36 mm 6K* In full-frame, you can use the full 6048 pixel width of the sensor for widescreen spherical 2.39:1 or Large Format Scope. Super35 17:9 and 16:9 These popular imager sizes are natively supported by VENICE. Current Super35mm PL mount lenses can be used. Fast Shutter Jello effect is something that we don’t need when filming. VENICE has high speed readout sensor which minimizes the jello effect that are typical in the CMOS sensors. Phenomenal latitude VENICE has an exceptional 15+ stops of latitude, with low noise for extraordinary performance in delivering phenomenal images in conditions from searing sunlight to almost no light. VENICE's real-world performance also excels at High Dynamic Range imaging and allows unprecedented creative freedom in grading. More colors for More Expression VENICE can exceed Rec. 2020 color space. This means the color range is wider than DCI-P3 and can beautifully reproduce the true color of the scene in front of your lens. This also provides the broad palette in the grading suite using the established workflow of Sony’s third generation LOG gamma encoding (S-Log3), and Ultra-wide color space.

Since files are up to 60% smaller compared with F55 RAW recording on the F55CineAlta camera, you’ll benefit from faster data transfers. And you’ll save on reduced media storage costs into the bargain. 2. Uncompromised quality It’s your image that matters most. X-OCN doesn’t compromise on all-important picture quality, processing original data from the camera’s sensor using a powerful new algorithm. There’s a choice of two operating modes to suit any project. X-OCN ST (Standard) quality is visually indistinguishable from Sony F55 RAW camera files with about 30% file size reduction. X-OCN LT (Light) quality maintains tremendous power and grading flexibility of 16-bit Scene Linear, with an incredible 60% file size reduction over current F55 RAW files. 3. Finer creative control Despite lower bit rates than F55 RAW, X-OCN delivers unprecedented flexibility and creative control in post-production with more than 65,000 tonal gradations – far in excess of current 10-bit or 12-bit formats. X-OCN combines full 2K and 4K resolution with extraordinary colour reproduction, well suited to Sony’s S-Gamut 3. X-OCN is as flexible as you want, handling frame rates right up to 120 fps in 4K resolution. X-OCN also records metadata to capture your choices for ISO sensitivity, colour temperature and others delivering the full potential of the original sensor data into post-production. 4. Great for HDR Used with the AXS-R7 external recorder, X-OCN allows forward-looking film-makers to take advantage of the F55’s support for HDR (High Dynamic Range). Accommodating a dynamic range of around 14 stops, the F55 can capture HDR images with a wider range of brightness levels, for sparkling peak highlights and deep, rich blacks.

  5. Sony introduces new raw recorder AXS-R7 for PMW-F55 and F5 CineAlta Cameras with version 8.01. Features of the new recorder: High speed 4K capture Compared to previous Sony 4K recorders, the AXS-R7 Portable Memory Recorder doubles 4K RAW recording from 60 fps up to 120 fps from the F55 camera*. For shooting at higher frame rates, the recorder captures 2K RAW at up to 240 fps from the F55 and F5, for playback with 10x super slow motion.** Also X-OCN can be used for 4K/2K high speed shooting. *4K 120 fps recording only available for F55. In Addition to the RAW recording Format – RAW SQ, New recording format, X-OCN In addition to F55RAW, AXS-R7 has new camera capture format X-OCN. X-OCN stands for Extended tonal range Original Camera Negative. X-OCN has two recording mode, X-OCN ST (Standard) and X-OCN LT (Light). X-OCN ST is visually indistinguishable quality from F55RAW by 70% data size of F55RAW. X-OCN LT is 40% data size of F55RAW. These choices are completely non-destructive and the full potential of the original sensor data is delivered into post-production by 16-bit scene linear data. 30-second cache recording With the recorder, 4K shooters can take advantage of RAW / X-OCN cache recording at 23.98p for up to approximately 30 seconds (*) while in standby mode, an important feature in documentary or wildlife production where capturing spontaneous action is required.   6. Sony FS7 is an awesome 4k S35mm size sensor camcorder from Sony. Main things we like about this camera: - Super 35mm Size sensor - 4k Video - 10-bit 4:2:2 imagery at just 50 Mbps - 50FPS at 4k and higher upto 180 at lower resolutions However, some things about the camera re tricky and the main being the complicated menu, and not knowing in a hurry what to set the camera at. Here's my recommended basic settings: - ISO : 2000 (Default ISO for the camera) - PAL 25 FPS (this should be obvious for India) - 4k (3840 x 2160), to best enjoy the PL Mount lenses. - Shooting Mode 'Cine EI' or 'SLog3' for best colour space gathering while shooting - Codec for recording : XAVCI - Monitor LUT IS SET TO 709. I like it this way because 709 LUT is very contrasty. You know the camera is recording more information than this and can take risks. - The S&Q (Slow and Quick) Motion Button on the top left hand side of the camera can quickly let you shoot preassigned 50FPS and back. You have to set this FPS in the settings. - Higher frame rates are only possible with lower resolutions. - Colour Temperature is what you are shooting. - In the Shutter setting, select Angle instead of time. Its just the way I like to shoot from the film days. Its less messy too when you change frame rates. - Peaking : I set to RED. he default is monochrome, but RED is just more visible and handy for those difficult focus times. After the shoot, use DivergentMedia's EditReady for batch transcoding the footage from the cameras MXF to ProRes.

It is always recommended to use the latest version of SxS device driver. Download is available on this page for latest version for Mac: Ver. IMPORTANT: To use a UDF-formatted SxS Memory Card with Windows PC/Mac, it is required to install SxS UDF Driver in addition to the above SxS device driver. Please check the details here. When using 'SBAC-US10' or connecting XDCAM/XDCAM EX device to PC/Mac via USB interface, SxS Device Driver is not required. Supported OS (operating systems) Recommended Macintosh OS environment • Mac OS X v10.5 (v10.5.0 or later) • Mac OS X v10.6 (v10.6.0 or later) • Mac OS X v10.7 (v10.7.0 or later) This version of SxS device driver does not support Mac OS X v10.4 (v10.4.9 or later). • Mac OS X v10.8 (v10.8.0 or later) SONY confirmed the compatibility between the Mac OS X Lion with the latest version of SxS device driver. This OS must be factory-installed. Operation is not guaranteed for operating systems later than the one described above. Attention (July 2011): Users of MacBook PRO* with Intel CoreDuo Processor (*Early 2006 Model: MA464/MA092) Sony has found that a message will appear to say you need to restart your CoreDuo-based MacBook PRO when you update the OS to Mac OS X 10.6.8 (released on June 23, 2011) and insert an SxS Memory Card into its ExpressCard slot. We do not recommend that you update your OS to 10.6.8. If you have already updated your OS and could not switch back to the previous version (such as 10.6.7), please use your SxS card in an XDCAM or XDCAM EX video recording product, connecting it to your Mac via the USB cable. You may also be able to use your card with an 'SxS Memory Card Reader/Writer SBAC-US10,' which is sold separately. Please read the software license agreement and go to accept if you agree to the terms and conditions. 2. Download will start. 3. If not same, delete the file and try to download again. SxS_Device_Driver_mac_v1.1.1.09040.dmg (316,297 byte) 4. Make sure to disconnect SxS memory card and to quit all other applications before SxS Device Driver installation. 5. Double click the SxS_Device_Driver_mac_v1.1.1.09040.dmg and start installation according to the message of the installer window. 6. Double click the SxS_Device_Driver Installer. After installation is completed, click the [Restart] button. 7. Insert an SxS memory card into ExpressCard slot. SxS memory card will be recognized as removable drive. How to Check Driver Version For Mac OS X v10.4 (v10.4.9 or later), Mac OS X v10.5 (v10.5.0 or later) and Mac OS X v10.6 (v10.6.0 or later) 1. Install SxS Device Driver and restart computer according to the message window. 2. Insert an SxS memory card into ExpressCard slot. 3. Select 'About This Mac' from 'Apple' menu and click 'More Info'. 4. Check the driver version at 'System Profiler' Window. 5. 'System Profiler' --- 'Software' --- 'Extensions' --- 'SxS Memory Card' --- Version For Mac OS X v10.7(v10.7.0 or later) 1. Install SxS Device Driver and restart computer according to the message window. 2. Insert an SxS memory card into ExpressCard slot. 3. Select 'About This Mac' from 'Apple' menu and click 'More Info'. 4. Select 'Outline' tab and click 'System report'. 5. Check the driver version at 'System Information' Window. 6. *It may take a few minutes before the Window appears on the screen. 7.
