Winston Fletcher Short Story Prize

Post by Team »

THE IDEA

The idea of a Winston Fletcher Prize came about when a number of Winston's friends and former colleagues decided that his extraordinary life deserved a lasting legacy.

Amongst his many other achievements, Winston was a prolific and eclectic writer of both non-fiction and fiction – he published more than 15 books and over 3,000 articles.

AND INSATIABLE CURIOSITY”

Richard Lambert

So it was decided that an annual short story competition would be both appropriate and something of which he would have approved.

Entry to the competition is open to anyone who works in advertising, marketing, or related businesses.

The theme or subject for the story will change each year, but will always be connected to one of Winston's passions.

THE BRIEF

For year one, the subject is the one he spent the most time thinking and writing about: advertising.

The short story (maximum 4,000 words) does not necessarily need to be about, or even set, in the advertising world, but just needs to imaginatively reflect the subject.

There is a cash prize of £2,000 for the best short story.

A jury chaired by Tim Waterstone will decide the winner.

It is hoped that the best half dozen or so of the stories will also be published.

Closing date for entries is September 4th 2013.
